Se apropie camera de filmat de ea iar o reporterita o intreaba ce simte.

This is a notification for the future, just in case someone else starts looking on the web for compatibility issues with the Casion CTK-3000 and Linux. In Ubuntu Jaunty it worked perfectly, in the old plug-and-play fashion. Here’s an output from lsusb :

Rosegarden can produce sounds directly to the synthesizer’s native speakers but still figuring the Jack daemon to produse sounds from the device into the computer. So - use Rosegarden to test it. The software will pop up a window saying you have to do a sudo modprobe snd-rtctimer. Ignore that, in Jaunty it does not work.
As a side-note: since Ubuntu will not automatically put Rosegarden’s icon in place after installation, you can manually set it from /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128×128/apps/rosegarden.png

/Later edit: Fixed my Jaunty Alsa/Pulse Audio issue with this guideline.
/Later edit: Go to Applications > Add/Remove > Show “All Open Source Applications”; search for “Jack rack” and see if it is installed. Then do a sudo apt-get install sox if sox is not already installed (such was my case). Go to Applications > Sound and Video > Jack Control and open up the Setup window. Uncheck Realtime under the “Parameters” section of the main window. Metronome function still starting in the synthesizer’s speakers when I press the record button in Rosegarden.
This fixes the previous error but there still remains the “System timer resolution is too low” message window that needs to be fixed. I did a grep CONFIG_HZ /boot/config*

Am gasit dimineata un articol despre cateva theme-uri Gnome pentru Jaunty. Merita parcurs, fie si in cateva secunde, fie si pentru screenshot-uri. Some of those are pretty good.

Se implinesc 40 de ani de UNIX. Articolul este interesant si il recomand tuturor. Fara UNIX si ideologia lui n-am fi avut azi nici Linux, nici BSD, nici OS X, nici QNX.

Blade Runner
Nu poti trece prin viata fara sa fi vazut Blade Runner cel putin o data. Nu as avea destule cuvinte cu care sa pot descrie acest film.

Fight Club
Dupa cartea lui Palahniuk care poarta acelasi titlu. Lasand deoparte neomodernismul si faptul ca se adreseaza atat maselor cat si… celorlalti, filmul este genial. Cartea e de zece ori mai buna. Unde mai pui ca finalul din film nu coincide nici pe departe cu cel din roman. Blestemata fie necesitatea americanilor de a avea un happy ending.

Bruiser
Un film ciudat despre un om ciudat. Are ca tema centrala masca

American Psycho
Christian Bale at his best. Sequel-ul e insipid, dar prima parte contopeste superb absurdul societatii cu contrastanta voce interioara a personajului.

Calvaire
Now this is a hairraiser. Trebuie sa ai stomac pentru un asemenea film dar e garantat sa starneasca ceva in privitor, indiferent de cat de pregatit ar fi. O combinatie de absurd, nebunie, dezgust, perversitate, o incursiune in cele mai intunecate tenebre ale mintii umane. Ca sa va faceti o idee, iata o scena definitorie pentru film.

Salo
Calvaire la puterea a doua. Mai vechi, mai dur, intins la extreme pana ce reuseste sa depaseasca acele extreme. Nu pentru oricine si nu oricand.

eXistenZ
Un SF genial, probabil cea mai reusita transpunere a ideologiei lui Brussollo pe pelicula. Subliniez aici “a ideologiei” deoarece filmul nu e dupa o carte de Brussollo dar mi-a sarit gandul la el in primele 15 minute.

Videodrome
De acelasi regizor care a creat eXistenZ. Film mai vechi, de prin anii ‘80; aceeasi tema a absurdului transpusa in SF, aceleasi realitati paralele care se contopesc.

Naked Lunch
Un deliciu. Cel mai apropiat de eXistenZ si Videodrome. Parca (daca imi amintesc bine) de acelasi regizor. Socant, absurd, pitoresc - atmosfera kafkiana traita prin prisma SF-ului.

One Point O
Ca si cele de mai sus, un must-see. Din nou absurdul, din nou atmosfera specifica.

Pi
Destul de greu de digerat. Filmat in alb-negru, lansat de Artisan Pictures, aceeasi echipa care a produs si filmul de mai jos.

Requiem For A Dream
Cred ca nu are nevoie de descriere.

Kontroll
Film maghiar de o intensitate surprinzatoare. Aceeasi tema a dublei personalitati pe care o gasim si in Fight Club.

Love Object
American Psycho dar cu un plus de psihologie. Film mai obscur care ar fi meritat mai multa atentie din partea criticilor.

De mentionat Donnie Darko si Mulholland Drive. Ar mai fi cateva, mai ales un anume film vazut acum vreo 3 ani si al carui nume nu reusesc sa mi-l amintesc.
Also, best dystopian movies.

To sum up Red Sparowes: this is the sound that planets are destroyed on. Vast, barren lands of dust, succumbing to a red, corrosive rain. RS is the filth behind the crust of communist buildings, the putrid smell of what once was, the dust covering an old bridal dress and the pile of shards swiped in the corner of a long lost kindergarten. Musky, toxic clouds, covering up the Earth in the delicate sound of wave after wave of thick blood, hitting the shores of a once sunny beach. The echoing emptiness of thick metal bars closing behind you and the
sharp, inviting coldness of tank edges. RS is the smell of
freshly-baked kerosene in the morning of an otherwise normal and quiet
field of wheat. RS is the sound children make right before the neutron bomb repaints their skin in gray.
